North-western Madagascar boasts a fantastic array of fishing areas and saltwater species, making it a prime destination for saltwater anglers.

From deep jigging for massive dogtooth tuna, to light tackle inshore fishing and hardcore fly-fishing, to casting at free swimming sailfish with fly and stick baits, to throwing surface poppers for big GT’s and everything in between, there is something to satisfy every angler!

The fishing is mainly offshore, focussing on the pinnacles, drop offs, reefs and sea mounts that dot the area, but there are also a number of opportunities for light tackle inshore fishing, and some exciting estuary fishing in the mangroves and off rocky points.  All of which is now readily accessible through Madagascar Fishing Adventures.

Madagascar Fishing Adventures is a joint project between experienced international saltwater guides, Graeme Field and Brandon King. Both have guided extensively on the east African coast (Mozambique, Tanzania, Madagascar) and the Seychelles.

They have now combined their passion and knowledge to set up their own professional fishing operation. Their aim is simple: to offer affordable fishing trips without compromising on the key elements that make for world-class fishing – namely a dynamic fishery, good boats, high quality electronic equipment, and highly experienced guides.

After lengthy researching and exploring, they feel they have located the perfect base for exploring the magnificent fishing that north-western Madagascar has to offer. Nosy Sakatia is the ideal gateway to access all the great fishing areas such as Serpent Bank, Castor Bank, Mitsio Islands, Radama Islands and the southern drop offs. Further north the deserted area of Cape San Sebastian is only accessible by live-a-board, and offers more mind blowing fishing.

As their name suggests, Madagascar Fishing Adventures focus is on adventure, and in order to ensure that guests have the ultimate fishing adventure, they have created both land based and live-a-board fishing options.

LAND BASED FISHING

From their base on Sakatia Island, Madagascar Fishing Adventures has set up two fly camps, one in the north (Mitsio Islands) and one in the south (Radama Islands). These camps allow access to the more remote fishing areas, and give anglers a number of different fishing options. Every day is different, new and exciting, and anglers get to experience every aspect of this fishery.

A typical weeklong fishing package will include 5 nights at Sakatia, and 2 nights at one of the fly camps. It also includes a day trip to legendary Castor Banks. Castor Banks is a massive underwater sea mount approximately 38miles offshore from Sakatia. This is a wild, untouched fishery and boasts huge numbers of GT’s, sailfish and dogtooth tuna.

A big draw card is that this entire area is sheltered from wind by the mountains on mainland Madagascar, and enjoys flat, calm seas almost year round. Launching is completely unrestricted by tides or weather, and very few (if any) fishing days are lost in a season.

LIVE-A-BOARD FISHING

The yacht trips concentrate on the far northern areas around the Mitsio Islands and Cape San Sebastian. Jigging, popping and fly-fishing are all successful on the variety of reefs in these areas. The fish density here is high, and anglers will connect with a lot of trophy fish such as GT’s and dogtooth tuna. In addition to these sought after fish, the full variety of species is available here, including green spot, yellow spot, bluefin, black and bludger trevally, king mackerel, jobfish, grouper and snapper to name but a few.

This is not for the faint at heart – tackle and stamina will be tested to the limit, but the rewards are great for those looking for a hard core fishing adventure.

Our yacht, Now Now is a 44ft Farrier, and can accommodate 6 anglers in double en-suite cabins.
