Queenfish are definitely a number one light tackle target species for me. They fight cleanly, do spectacular jumps and great runs on light tackle. They feed best at first light and after the sun has set, and will go crazy for surface lures at these times. My best outfit to target queens is a Shimano Beastmaster Special Tiger Rod with a Shimano Sustain 4000 reel loaded with 30lb Sufix 832 braid. I use a 1.5m fluorocarbon leader and the number one lure for me is the Rapala Skitter Pop 12cm. I replace the trebles on this lure with inline single hooks the VMC 7266 hooks are ideal for replacing trebles on lures, as they are inline and specifically designed for this job.
Queenfish prefer a lure retrieved fast, I have experimented with slow injured presentations, but always get more hits from a fast, panicked looking lure. They will often attack in packs and there can be chaos when they come on the bite!
